Description of Hell

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful

Al-Anfal
(8:36) Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah . So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved – unto Hell they will be gathered.
(8:37) [This is] so that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.

Al-A’raf
(7:179) And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.

At-Tauba
(9:35) The Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, [it will be said], “This is what you hoarded for yourselves, so taste what you used to hoard.”

(9:68) Allah has promised the hypocrite men and hypocrite women and the disbelievers the fire of Hell, wherein they will abide eternally. It is sufficient for them. And Allah has cursed them, and for them is an enduring punishment.

Yunus
(10:8) For those their refuge will be the Fire because of what they used to earn.

Al-Kahf
(18:29) And say, “The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.” Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

Al-Hajj
(22:18) Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allah humiliates – for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allah does what He wills.
(22:19) These are two adversaries who have disputed over their Lord. But those who disbelieved will have cut out for them garments of fire. Poured upon their heads will be scalding water
(22:20) By which is melted that within their bellies and [their] skins.
(22:21) And for [striking] them are maces of iron.
(22:22) Every time they want to get out of Hellfire from anguish, they will be returned to it, and [it will be said], “Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire!”

An-Nur
(24:57) Never think that the disbelievers are causing failure [to Allah] upon the earth. Their refuge will be the Fire – and how wretched the destination.

Al-Furqan
(25:12) When the Hellfire sees them from a distant place, they will hear its fury and roaring.
(25:13) And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein bound in chains, they will cry out thereupon for destruction.
(25:14) [They will be told], “Do not cry this Day for one destruction but cry for many destruction.”

(25:34) The ones who are gathered on their faces to Hell – those are the worst in position and farthest astray in [their] way.

As-Sajdah
(32:19) As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, for them will be the Gardens of Refuge as accommodation for what they used to do.
(32:20) But as for those who defiantly disobeyed, their refuge is the Fire. Every time they wish to emerge from it, they will be returned to it while it is said to them, “Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny.”
(32:21) And we will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will repent.
(32:22) And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord; then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution.

Fatir
(35:36) And for those who disbelieve will be the fire of Hell. [Death] is not decreed for them so they may die, nor will its torment be lightened for them. Thus do we recompense every ungrateful one.
(35:37) And they will cry out therein, “Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness – other than what we were doing!” But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? So taste [the punishment], for there is not for the wrongdoers any helper.

Ya-Sin
(36:59) [Then He will say], “But stand apart today, you criminals.
(36:60) Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan – [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy –
(36:61) And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.
(36:62) And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?
(36:63) This is the Hellfire which you were promised.
(36:64) [Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny.”

As-Saffat
(37:61) For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
(37:62) Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?
(37:63) Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
(37:64) Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
(37:65) Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
(37:66) And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
(37:67) Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
(37:68) Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.

Suad
(38:55) This [is so]. But indeed, for the transgressors is an evil place of return –
(38:56) Hell, which they will [enter to] burn, and wretched is the resting place.
(38:57) This – so let them taste it – is scalding water and [foul] purulence.
(38:58) And other [punishments] of its type [in various] kinds.
(38:59) [Its inhabitants will say], “This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire.”
(38:60) They will say, “Nor you! No welcome for you. You, [our leaders], brought this upon us, and wretched is the settlement.”
(38:61) They will say, “Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us – increase for him double punishment in the Fire.”
(38:62) And they will say, “Why do we not see men whom we used to count among the worst?
(38:63) Is it [because] we took them in ridicule, or has [our] vision turned away from them?”
(38:64) Indeed, that is truth – the quarreling of the people of the Fire.

Az-Zumar
(39:16) They will have canopies of fire above them and below them, canopies. By that Allah threatens His servants. O My servants, then fear Me.

Ghafir
(40:71) When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged
(40:72) In boiling water; then in the Fire they will be filled [with flame].
(40:73) Then it will be said to them, “Where is that which you used to associate [with Him in worship]
(40:74) Other than Allah ?” They will say, “They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything.” Thus does Allah put astray the disbelievers.
(40:75) [The angels will say], “That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently.
(40:76) Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant.”

Az-Zukhruf
(43:74) Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally.
(43:75) It will not be allowed to subside for them, and they, therein, are in despair.
(43:76) And We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.
(43:77) And they will call, “O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!” He will say, “Indeed, you will remain.”
(43:78) We had certainly brought you the truth, but most of you, to the truth, were averse.

Ad-Dukhan
(44:43) Indeed, the tree of zaqqum
(44:44) Is food for the sinful.
(44:45) Like murky oil, it boils within bellies
(44:46) Like the boiling of scalding water.
(44:47) [It will be commanded], “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire,
(44:48) Then pour over his head from the torment of scalding water.”
(44:49) [It will be said], “Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble!
(44:50) Indeed, this is what you used to dispute.”

Al-Jathiya
(45:10) Before them is Hell, and what they had earned will not avail them at all nor what they had taken besides Allah as allies. And they will have a great punishment.

Muhammad
(47:12) Indeed, Allah will admit those who have believed and done righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow, but those who disbelieve enjoy themselves and eat as grazing livestock eat, and the Fire will be a residence for them.
(47:13) And how many a city was stronger than your city which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.
(47:14) So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?
(47:15) Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord, like [that of] those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

Ar-Rahman
(55:43) This is Hell, which the criminals deny.
(55:44) They will go around between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost degree].

Al-Mujadalah
(58:17) Never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah at all. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally
(58:18) On the Day Allah will resurrect them all, and they will swear to Him as they swear to you and think that they are [standing] on something. Unquestionably, it is they who are the liars.

Al-Mulk
(67:6) And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination.
(67:7) When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up.
(67:8) It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, “Did there not come to you a warner?”
(67:9) They will say,” Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, ‘ Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.’ ”
(67:10) And they will say, “If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.”
(67:11) And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze.
(67:12) Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward.

Al-Muddaththir
(74:27) And what can make you know what is Saqar?
(74:28) It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],
(74:29) Blackening the skins.
(74:30) Over it are nineteen [angels].
(74:31) And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve – that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, “What does Allah intend by this as an example?” Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.
(74:32) No! By the moon
(74:33) And [by] the night when it departs
(74:34) And [by] the morning when it brightens,
(74:35) Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]
(74:36) As a warning to humanity –
(74:37) To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.
(74:38) Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained
(74:39) Except the companions of the right,
(74:40) [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other
(74:41) About the criminals,
(74:42) [And asking them], “What put you into Saqar?”
(74:43) They will say, “We were not of those who prayed,
(74:44) Nor did we used to feed the poor.
(74:45) And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],
(74:46) And we used to deny the Day of Recompense
(74:47) Until there came to us the certainty.”
(74:48) So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
(74:49) Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away
(74:50) As if they were alarmed donkeys
(74:51) Fleeing from a lion?

Ad-Dahr
(76:4) Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze.

Al-A’la
(87:12) [He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
(87:13) Neither dying therein nor living.

Al-Balad
(90:19) But they who disbelieved in Our signs – those are the companions of the left.
(90:20) Over them will be fire closed in.

Al-Humazah
(104:4) No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.
(104:5) And what can make you know what is the Crusher?
(104:6) It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled,
(104:7) Which mounts directed at the hearts.
(104:8) Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them
(104:9) In extended columns.

Al-Fatah
(48:13) And whoever has not believed in Allah and His Messenger – then indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers a Blaze.
(48:14) And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
